Smoked Tri-Tip Steak

Smoked tri-tip steak is a versatile, affordable and flavorful steak that can be shared in your home - and without a trip to Santa Maria!


  • Smoker/ Grill


  • 1 tri-tip
  • spice rub


  • Season tri-tip 1 hour before
  • At 350F on a grill/smoker or 300F on Gateway Drum Smoker, cook 15 minutes on one side.
  • Flip and cook 15 minutes on the other side or until 15-20 degrees below doneness (mine was 110F)
  • Sear 5 minutes on lowest rack or hotter temp.
  • Flip and sear an additional 5 minutes. (Mine was done at 125F)
  • Rest 30 minutes under tented foil.
